Our History

Nine years ago, Wendy Montealegre realized that Alabama had a dog over-population crisis. Dogs were dying in shelters, abandoned on the streets, and not being taken care of as they deserve. That is when her rescue work began. 

Then in 2020, Tails from Alabama was officially established, with the help of Wendy and her rescue partner, Tara Ivey Kennedy. Tails from Alabama is a rescue, existing to save Alabama’s dogs by fostering, vetting, and transporting them to Rescue Charlie’s Friends, our sister rescue in Maine.
